THE WORLD’S MOST SCENIC RAILWAY JOURNEYS

★★★½

7.35pm, SBS

This absolutely glorious glide through the spectacular Norwegian countryside and wilderness could really do without the snarky British commentary, particularly the misplaced reference to Swedish flat-pack furniture. What is lovely is that instead of one foreign tour guide, different locals give insights into their homeland. Along with the breathtaking panoramas are historical experiences, including stops at a medieval village and at a Viking festival.

CAT TALES

★★★

8.30pm, SBS

More than a display of cute little furry creatures, sleek handsome furry creatures and everything in between (the bald, the earless, the overfluffed), this is also a scientific study on the relationship between cats and humans. The findings of an Oxford study on the subject are even included. There’s also historical context to the domesticated version of the wild, tree-dwelling beast. For cat lovers, it’s fascinating and immensely validating.

TERRITORY COPS

Double episode ★★★

7.30pm, Nine

A mix of culture (ute musters, singing bikies) and police work (drug busts, pursuits), this window into the Northern Territory force is narrated with a dose of the sort of Hoges-era ockerism that might appeal to an overseas audience. It’s all rough and tumble out here in the outback, with distance certainly adding to the pressures of the job. As per the title, the viewpoints expressed here tend to be exclusively those of the law enforcers.
