The first-level warning was hoisted at Dowleswaram Barrage on the Godavari river in East Godavari on Saturday noon.
The officials further mentioned that there would be moderate risk over some areas of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Northeast Telangana and North Coastal Andhra Pradesh with the flash floods for next 24 hours referring to the Flash Flood Guidance (FFG), a report of India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Speaking to TOI, the executive engineer at Dowleswaram barrage IV Satyannarayana said that the river crossed 10.03 lakh cusecs, the mark to officially announce the first-level warning at 1pm on Saturday.
"We have alerted the state revenue and other allied departments to start the necessary rescue and rehabilitation works. Since the flood is in the rising trend due to the continuous rainfalls in the catchment areas of the river, the flood level may reach the second-level warning too soon," Satyannarayana added.
On the other hand, the AP State Disaster Management Authority announced that two NDRF teams were already sent to the East Godavari district to evacuate the people in the island villages and mandals like Devipatnam along the river.
