Video: Retired Vadodara cop stranded with car in river water; rescued

The 70-year-old was stranded in the swollen river with his car.
VADODARA: A retired police inspector was rescued by Vadodara Fire and Emergency Services on Saturday morning after his car fell in the overflowing Jambuva river on the outskirts of the city.
The 70-year-old Rajendra Sarvaiya was going to his farm at Dhaniyavi village when his car got stranded in the swollen river. Sarvaiya, a resident of Manjalpur, climbed on the roof of his car as the vehicle was slowly submerging in the water. The locals informed the fire department after hearing Sarvaiya's call for help.

A team of firemen from Makarpura GIDC fire station reached out to Sarvaiya with a boat. “As we got the message from the control room, we reached the spot with the help of the boat and rescued the retired police officer,” said fire officer Nikunj Azad of Makarpura fire station.
Jambuva, a tributary of Vishwamitri river, is in spate due to incessant rains over the past few days. Vadodara is on edge once again after the rains resumed on Saturday morning. At 1pm, Vishwamitri river was flowing at 22.5 feet and the level of Ajwa and Pratappura reservoirs were recorded at 211.65 feet and 225.5 feet.
