Bomb squad's controlled seafront explosion forces A55 to close in both directions
The A55 was closed in both directions after the bomb squad today carried out a controlled explosion on the seafront.
Emergency services were scrambled to the promenade in Old Colwyn at around 5pm following the discovery of unexploded ordnance on the beach.
Traffic cleared
The A55 now appears to have cleared.
A55 reopens
The A55 has now reopened in both directions between J23 A547 Abergele Road (Llanddulas) and J22 (Old Colwyn).
Police statement
A spokesman for North Wales Police, said:
EOD are assisting us with an incident on the Prom. Unexploded ordinance has been found on the beach. There is a cordon in place and EOD will be carrying out a controlled explosion.
Prom road reopened
An eyewitness has said police have now reopened the Prom road following the controlled explosion.
It is not clear how long the A55 will be closed, but we will update you as soon as it has reopened.

Heavy traffic is reported in the area.
