Poorna Sundari MMADURAI: Poorna Sundari M, who recently cracked the 2019 Union Public Service Commission’s (UPSC) civil service examination, participated in the Independence Day celebrations on Saturday at her alma mater -- Pillaimar Sangam Higher Secondary School in Madurai.
The 25-year-old blind woman bagged the 286th rank in her fourth attempt. Being the source of inspiration for many, she unfurled the National Flag at the school.
Poorna addressed the gathering and said, “I am honoured to be invited as the chief guest to my alma mater. I am grateful to my teachers and this school for my growth as a person. I entered this school as a 10-year-old girl. The school led me to where I am today. The support of teachers here has been incredible.”
Later, she also took part as the chief guest in the Independence Day function held at Madurai Kamaraj University.
