#MSDretires: Fans, colleagues and peers wish Dhoni luck

Mahendra Singh Dhoni dropped a veritable bomb on his fans and cricket lovers this evening by announcing his retirement from international cricket. “Thanks a lot for your love and support throughout. From 1929 hrs, consider me as retired," Dhoni posted on Instagram this evening.
This, however, doesn’t mean MSD has hung up his boots for good. Thala, as his fans call him down south, still has a lot of fire inside him and will continue to enthrall fans in domestic cricket.
Among those who wished him a great future was Sanchin Tendulkar. “Your contribution to Indian cricket has been immense, @msdhoni. Winning the 2011 World Cup together has been the best moment of my life. Wishing you and your family all the very best for your 2nd innings,” Sachin tweeted this evening.
Amit Shah also thanked MSD in a tweet: “I join millions of cricket fans across the globe to thank @msdhoni for his unparalleled contributions to Indian Cricket. His cool temperament has turned several hot encounters in India’s favour. Under his captaincy India was crowned World Champions twice in different formats.”

We also spoke to KR Banerjee, Dhoni’s sports teacher at his school in Ranchi who taught him the basics of cricket almost three decades ago. “Since he knows about International cricket much more than me, he must have taken this decision after knowing the consequences,” he told us, adding that Ranchiites will now lose the reason they had come to love cricket.
