Bokaro: Bokaro Steel Limited (BSL) on Friday said it launched a drive to identify those who are illegally hooking into power supply. Authorities removed 150 power line tappings on the National Highway crossing near Sector-12, 70 from Laxmi Market area and around 90 in Sector-2.
Power pilferage, the BSL said, is causing it hefty revenue losses annually and is also affecting electricity supply in its staff quarters and short-circuit in the transformers.
A team from the electricity department of BSL had launched a similar drive a few weeks ago and had removed more than 550 illegal connections being drawn from the power supply lines meant for BSL township. Despite the drive, hooking continues unabated in the town at several places.
BSL’s chief of communication Manikant Dhan said, “Our anti-hooking drive is continuing to curb electricity theft in BSL township. All illegal tapping of wires will be removed. If felt necessary, the management will also lodge FIRs with police.”
“Bokaro Steel Township is spread over 15,000 acre and has 10 residential sectors. In each of these sectors, several acres of land have been encroached. The squatters steal power supplied through electricity poles of BSL to meet their requirements,” an official of BSL’s management said.
