Thane: Two friends on picnic drown at waterfall

KALYAN: Two friends drowned at the Chondi waterfall in Murbad taluka on Thursday afternoon. A group of six friends had gone for a picnic there, despite all waterfals across Thane district being closed. Their bodies were recovered on Friday afternoon.
Residents of Ambele village, Tokawade, Murbad taluka in Thane district, Umesh Botkundale (22) and Kartik Gadade (20), had gone to the waterfall in Khopivali village with four friends on Thursday. Murbad police said the two entered the water on the deep side and drowned.
The police said that their friends rushed to the village for help. Villagers then rushed to the spot but could not find the two. They then informed Murbad police. Inspector Dattatrey Borate said police and fire team started looking for the two in the evening. They recovered Botkundale and Gadade's bodies from the water on Friday afternoon. A case of accidental death was filed.
