West Bengal: Highest single day Covid deaths reported from Bidhannagar

KOLKATA: After reporting not a single Covid death since August 5, three Covid deaths were reported from Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation area in the last 24 hours, the highest single day Covid deaths in the civic body area so far. From 41 deaths till Thursday, the total Covid death figure on Friday reached 44.
However on the brighter side, a total of 103 Covid affected persons were reported to have recovered in the last 24 hours, also the single day highest number of persons recovering.
Till Friday, the total Covid numbers in Bidhannagar area now stands at 2,953 with 1,290 active cases and 1,619 persons recovering. Another 96 persons tested positive on Friday.
The civic body opened its second free Covid testing centre on Thursday at Narayantala area in Rajarhat. About 80 to 100 swab samples could now be collected from the two testing centres on a daily basis, civic officials said. the other one already operating in Salt Lake for nearly a month.
Civic officials said that out of the 30 to 40 swab samples that are being collected daily from the Salt Lake Covid test centre so far, an average of eight to nine persons have been testing positive.
The number of containment zone was revised on Friday in which a locality of Sukantanagar has been removed from the containment zone list. The rest of the three containment zones remain unchanged with two of them falling in Duttabad. The other containment zone is two lanes of a locality of Deshbandhunagar in Kestopur.
Areas bordering Salt Lake along side Duttabad and pockets of Baguiati and Kestopur are now the Covid hotspots of Bidhannagar civic body area.
