Karnataka: Coastal districts record 629 Covid-19 cases, 11 deaths

MANGALURU/UDUPI: The surge in Covid-19 cases continued in erstwhile undivided Dakshina Kannada region with two coastal districts reporting 629 fresh positive cases and 11 deaths on Friday.
While Dakshina Kannada (DK) reported 307 fresh cases and seven fatalities, Udupi recorded 322 new patients and five deaths. With this, DK’s Covid-19 tally increased to 8,378 and the total number of deaths climbed to 256. Out of the 307 fresh cases in DK, 124 have no contact history.
While the district has 2,007 active cases as on date, the day also saw 242 people getting discharge from hospitals and home isolation after being treated for the disease.
As many as 6,115 people were discharged in the district so far.
Out of six deaths reported in DK on Friday, four were from Mangaluru taluk and one each from Moodbidri and Belthangady. Meanwhile, one death reported is a case from other district. Out of the 307 cases reported in DK, 197 were from Mangaluru taluk.
Meanwhile, out of 322 new cases reported in Udupi, 234 are asymptomatic and 117 have no specific contact history. With this, the total number of cases in Udupi increased to 7,497 which include 2,550 active cases.
A total of 4,872 people, who were under isolation in hospitals and homes, were discharged from Udupi as on Friday. The district also saw 614 people getting discharged after treatment on Friday. All the five persons died in Udupi were also suffering from various comorbidities.
