Singer SP Balasubrahmanyam, who was admitted to a Chennai hospital after testing positive for the novel coronavirus is serious. The hospital authorities shared his health update on Friday.

The 74-year-old is being treated by a set of doctors and his haemodynamic and clinical parameters are closely monitored. According to the health bulletin, his condition worsened on August 13th late night.

The press statement reads, "There has been a setback in the health of Thiru S P Balasubrahmanyam who had been admitted at MGM Healthcare for symptoms of COVID since 5th August 2020. In a late night development on 13th August 2020, his condition had deteriorated, and based on the advice of the expert medical team attending to him, he has been moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and he is on life support and his condition remains critical.

He was admitted to the hospital on August 5. The 74-year old playback singer had also shared a video on his Facebook page confirming the diagnosis and the hospitalisation.

In early days of August, the legendary singer had posted a video on his Facebook page, saying that he had chest congestion for days, with cold and fever also. He was tested for COVID-19 and found positive. He chose to stay in the hospital for recovery and also to keep his family safe.

On Facebook, he said, "I am in good hands. And I have good health. Nobody has to worry about this. Please don't bother to call me to find out how I am. I'm perfectly alright excepting cold and fever. Even the fever has subsided. In two days, I will be discharged and I will be home. Thanks for the concern. Lots of people are calling me. I could not attend so many calls..."
