Senior journalist kills self in Ranchi

Ranchi: A senior journalist and bureau chief of a well-known national news agency allegedly hanged himself from the ceiling fan at his office-cum-residence in Deendayal Nagar under Lalpur police station on Wednesday night of Wednesday, police said. A special investigation team (SIT) will investigate the matter, police said.
Police said they received information about the incident around 8am on Wednesday. The body has been sent to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences for a Covid-19 test and will be handed over to his family once the result returns negative.
Although P V Ramanujam (56) did not leave behind any suicide note, sources in his family said he was under severe work stress which coud have been the reason for him taking the exteme step. Ramanujam had been heading the agency’s Jharkhand bureau for almost two decades. A colleagues, preferring anonymity, said, “He was a very nice person and committed suicide due to professional pressures.”
Chief minister Hemant Soren, Governor Draupadi Mumru, Union tribal affairs minister and former CM Arjun Munda and senior government officers expressed their grief over his demise.Ramanujam has left behind his wife P Shubhalakshami and a son, who is pursuing his Bachelor of Business Management in Bhubaneswar.
