Punjab reports 25 more Covid-19 deaths, record single-day spike of 1,077 cases

CHANDIGARH: Punjab on Friday reported 25 more fatalities due to coronavirus, pushing the death toll to 731, while the highest single-day spike of 1,077 cases took the state's infection tally to 29,013. Seven coronavirus patients died in Ludhiana, four each in Sangrur and Patiala, three in Jalandhar, two each in Ferozepur and Mohali, and one each in Amritsar, Barnala and Hoshiarpur, according to a medical bulletin.
Among districts which reported the new cases are Ludhiana (296), Patiala (135), Jalandhar (134), Pathankot (62), Bathinda (60), Mohali (53), Kapurthala (38), Amritsar (36) and Gurdaspur (35), it said.
A total of 489 coronavirus patients were discharged after recovering from the infection. So far, 18,328 people have been cured of the infection.
There are 9,954 active Covid-19 cases in the state, according to the bulletin.
Thirty patients are critical and on the ventilator, while 160 are on oxygen support, it said.
A total of 7,41,834 samples have been taken for testing so far in the state, it said.
