TPCC president and Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy
HYDERABAD: The Congress will meet Union social justice and empowerment minister Thawar Chand Gehlot and lodge a complaint about the increasing atrocities against Dalits in Telangana state.
It will also submit representations to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and National Scheduled Castes Commission on the attacks on Dalits in Telangana and seek their intervention for justice to the deprived sections of the society.
Telangana Congress president and Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy said it is unfortunate that chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was turning a blind eye to the atrocities against Dalits. At the state level, the Congress will also represent the issue to governor Tamilisai Soundararajan.
Uttam expressed concern over the increasing atrocities on Dalits and said a Dalit farmer, Narasimhulu committed suicide in Gajwel, the Assembly constiotuency represented by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. “Narasimhulu’s land was forcibly taken away by the government,” Uttam alleged.
“Another Dalit youth committed suicide unable to bear the harassment by police at the instance of ruling TRS leaders. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has remained a spectator to the atrocities on Dalits and Girijans in the State,” Uttam alleged.
Asserting that social justice was possible only by the Congress party, the TPCC chief charged CM KCR of meting out injustice to SCs, STs, BCs, minorities and other weaker sections. “The Congress would raise the voice in Parliament and other forums to protect the rights and interest of all suppressed sections,” he said.
He said the KCR-government has failed to control the spread of coronavirus in the state. The actual numbers pertaining to infected persons and deaths were being suppressed to create a false impression that Covid-19 was under control.
The TPCC chief asked all the party cadres to gather details of deaths due to Coronavirus in their areas. The Congress will release the actual numbers of Covid-19 victims.
He demanded that the state government pay compensation of Rs. 10 lakh to those who died of coronavirus from BPL families. Also, the treatment of Covid-19 should be included in the Aarogyasri scheme. “What is stopping CM KCR from accepting the demand for inclusion of Covid-19 in Aarogyasri scheme,” he said.
He slammed private hospitals for charging huge sums of money to treat Covid-19 patients and appealed to the managements of private hospitals not to take Covid-19 treatment as an opportunity to earn money.
