UEFA Champions League 2020, Barcelona vs Bayern Highlights: Bayern Munich progressed to the semifinal stage of the UEFA Champions League after defeating Barcelona 8-2 on Friday at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon.
Despite taking an early lead through Thomas Muller, Bayern conceded within the seventh minute through a David Alaba own goal. By the 31st minute, they were leading the Catalan club by 4-1 after goals in quick succession from Ivan Perisic, Serge Gnabry and Muller again. In the second half, although Luis Suarez cut the deficit a bit with a left-footed finish, Bayern inflicted pain on Barcelona again. Joshua Kimmich and Robert Lewandowski scored from inside the box, before Philippe Coutinho scored two in the final minutes of the game.
There's final time whistle and Bayern Munich progress to the semi-final of the competition. For Barcelona though, it was an absolute humiliation. One of the historic nights where the Catalan giants were mauled by a superior Bavarian side. Muller and Coutinho scored twice, while Perisic, Gnabry, Kimmich and Lewandowski each grabbed a piece. Next up for Bayern, either City or Lyon who play tomorrow.
Coutinho scores his second from inside the box from a Lucas Hernandez cushioned header. Quique Setien and Lionel Messi are bewildered, and even Hansi Flick can't believe what he is seeing. This is unbelievable.
This is just getting humilating for Barcelona now as their loaned out midfielder has just scored against them.
THAT MAN! HAD TO BE! After an engrossing passing play, Coutinho skins Semedo on the left wing and just dinks the ball over the defence with his left foot and the ball finds Lewandowski's head.
Niklas Sule and Philippe Coutinho come on in place of Serge Gnabry and Jerome Boateng. Interestingly, Coutinho is on loan from Barcelona itself.
Ansu Fati replaces midfielder Sergio Busquets.
WHAT AN ASSIST BY DAVIES! Alphonso Davies, the 19-year-old Canadian left-back dribbles past the entire defence, especially Nelson Semedo, to just play simple pass to Joshua Kimmich. The left back to right back.
WHAT A SENSATIONAL EFFORT! Hello, hello, is the comeback on here in Lisbon? Suarez shows what he has in his locker as he dupes Boateng and gets past him to score a lovely left-footed finish past Neuer.
After Davies was booked for a foul, Suarez is fouled for a foul on Thiago.
Bayern have started the second half as they had finished the last one, as Perisic and Goretzka have both threatened the goal already.
Antoine Griezmann comes on for Sergi Roberto for Barcelona.
Barcelona concede four goals in the first half of a UCL match for the first time ever.
Bayern Munich have looked like elect champions tonight, as without getting Lewandowski on the scoresheet they have a three-goal lead. Muller scored twice, and Perisic and Gnabry got one each... tormenting Ter Stegen with every chance. Setien's side has been shambolic at the back, but up infront they have been wasteful too with their only goal coming from an Alaba own goal.
In the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League campaign, Jupp Heynckes' Bayern had defeated Pep Guardiola's Barcelona 7-0 in two legs of the semi-final. The way Hansi Flick's team is playing... they are certainly looking to be in the mood to repeat history.
FOUR NOW! It's very simple from Bayern -- Kimmich gets the ball on the right flank and plays a low cross and Muller just taps it in past Ter Stegen. He is the first player in Champions League history to score six career UCL goals against Barcelona.
ANOTHER ONE! Barcelona's defence is in shambles in Lisbon now as Thiago's pass cuts through their defence and finds Goretzka. The German midfielder just lobs it above the head of Lenglet and finds Gnabry, who does the rest with a low right-footed finish. Bayern are running away with the game here!
WHAT A SHOT! Another blinding Bayern buildup ends up being a potent attack as Gnabry brings the ball through the centre of the park and after giving Pique the mickey, he passes it to Perisic on the edge of the box. The Croatian takes the ball on his left foot and fires it past Ter Stegen with a lot of power. The Germans are ahead again.
After a couple of near-misses from Barcelona -- Suarez's failed chip and Busquets' missed header -- Bayern Munich has again regained control here as Davis swings a brilliant cross inside the Catalan box. This match can end 6-6 for all we know.
What a game we have here! After Pique played a ball to the left-wing to Alba, the left-back's quick cross is misread by an incoming Alaba, who puts the ball inside his own goal past a hapless Neuer! Game on!
