The US reported at least 1,470 deaths on Wednesday, the highest single-day total yet in August, according to the NYT database. Wednesday’s death total was the country’s highest since late May. For the past two weeks, the country has averaged over 1,000 deaths per day, more than twice as many as in early July. Also, according to an NYT analysis, over 2,00,000 more people have died than usual since March. However, the US virus toll so far is 166,483.
