Cadillac To Extend Free Super Cruise By One Year For 2018 CT6 Owners

Earlier this week, Cadillac confirmed to CarScoops that the Super Cruise hands-free driving system is only free for the first three years.

After that period, owners of cars equipped with this feature need to pay a subscription fee to continue to benefit from the system, which requires a vehicle connectivity plan to operate. GM spokeswoman Katie Minter said the first cars to see the free access plan expire are 2018 Cadillac CT6 sedans in September.

Now, though, the GM representative got back to us and announced a small change of plans that 2018 CT6 owners will clearly appreciate.

“As a gesture of appreciation to 2018MY CT6 Super Cruise first-time owners in the U.S., last year we made the decision to provide them with a one-year complimentary extension to their Super Cruise service once their initial three-year plan expires,” Minter told us. “These owners have been extremely helpful adopters of this technology, actively providing us with suggestions and feedback on their experiences with Super Cruise,” she added.

That’s definitely great news for 2018 Cadillac CT6 owners who can use the Super Cruise system free of charge for one more year. We were curious to learn if owners have been notified of the extension, so we asked GM if the decision was communicated to them last year or more recently.

As it turns out, they’ll hear it here first: “The communication to customers will be going out soon. As customers reach the end of their first 3 years of service, they will receive a renewal notification,” the representative replied. For now, it is unclear (and probably too early to tell) if the offer will be repeated for owners of other Cadillac models equipped with Super Cruise.
