Sindri: The Dhanbad district administration’s appeal to the corporate houses for help in combating Covid-19 bore fruit on Thursday when the Jharia division of Tata Steel gave them 10 ventilators.
General manager (Jharia division) Sanjay Rajoria handed over the ventilators to Dhanbad DC Umashankar Singh in the presence of civil surgeon Dr Gopal Das and Gopal Nath Jha, the administrative head of the company.
Earlier, the Tata Trust had provided 1,000 PPE kits, 24,000 surgical masks, 1,500 N-95 masks and 1,000 gloves to the district administration and 3,500 face shields for the frontline warriors of the district to the SSP.
On Thursday, the DC said the 10 new ventilators, along with the 18 that the state government had provided earlier, will be of immense help in treating the Covid patients. “These ventilators will be installed in the designated Covid hospital of BCCL Central Hospital and in the Covid care centres like PMCH, Dhanbad, sadar hospital and Jamadoba hospital,” the DC added.
He further said that a 30-bed ICU for the critical Covid-19 patients would be set up at PMCH cath lab soon.
Keeping the surge in cases in mind, the DC asked people not to panic as the administration is working round-the-clock to make 700 beds ready within a short span of time and soon it will be ready with 1,000 beds for the Covid-19 patients.
As of Thursday morning, Dhanbad had a total of 1,312 cases, of which 378 were active. So far, the district has recorded 21 deaths while 913 people have been cured.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday evening, the DC wrote to BCCL CMD for taking action against two doctors and five nurses for being absent from duty at BCCL central hospital, a designated Covid hospital.
The aforementioned health workers are allegedly either not coming to work or reporting to the hospital late for the last 15 days, resultantly, causing hindrance in the treatment of Covid-19 patients.
The DC, in his letter, mentioned that since it is the duty of the chief of medical services of the company to ensure that the staff report to duty on time, he should also be served a show cause notice, along with the doctors and nurses.
He added that if they continue to neglect their duties, the district administration will take stern action against them under different sections of the Epidemic Diseases Act and the Disaster Management Act.
