Over 17 gangsters carrying reward held in last 7 months

Gurgaon: More than 17 criminals have been arrested by Gurgaon police in the last seven months. Most of these were wanted for several crimes and police had announced rewards on their heads. In the past three years, around 40 such criminals have been arrested, including notorious gangster Kaushal and members of his gang.
Police said continued action against criminals has helped in neutralising gangs active in the region and it has also helped in reduction of crime. Now, the Gurgaon police’s list has only nine criminals.
In 2018, police neutralised 11 criminals, including Surjeet alias Vidrohi — whose gang was active in Delhi-NCR, Haryana and Rajasthan — and Umesh alias Don. Both were killed in a shootout in Chhattarpur in June 2018. Sahnn Bisembra, who was involved in several cases of murder, robberies and ATM theft, was also arrested that year, as was Amit Dagar, a close aide of Kaushal. Dagar’s arrest ultimately contributed to the decline of Kaushal gang.
In 2019, 12 criminals were nabbed. The year started with the arrest of Chand, a member of the Sube gang, in January. In April, police arrested 16 members of Kaushal gang, out of which three were on the wanted list.
In September, Kaushal was arrested. Sahid alias Advani, who had committed several dozen crimes in different parts of the state, was also caught.
This year, police arrested as many as 17 criminals till July, most of them were wanted in crimes like theft, robbery and snatching. Police said its continuous crackdown over organised crime has helped in making Gurgaon free of gangsters. “In the last one-and-a-half years, police have busted more than 170 gangs, of which 115 gangs were busted in 2019,” a senior police officer said.
Police focused on neutralising existing gangs and preventing new gangs from taking shape. “We started with big criminals. Gradually, all gangs active in the city were neutralised. Now, we have started a drive against proclaimed offenders,” Gurgaon commissioner of police KK Rao told TOI.
