In view of the increasing cases of online and mobile banking fraud in the country, users have been warned about this on the cybersecurity Twitter handle 'Cyber Dost' of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The government has warned the users about fake calls. This information has been given on the cyber friend's Twitter handle so that users can stay safe.
With the help of calls coming on mobile phones, the method of fraud is quite old, but recently there have been many cases in which the matter of emptying the bank account through phone calls has come up.
Most calls come from numbers starting at +92 and +01.
Most calls for fraud purposes come from numbers starting at +92. Apart from normal calls from such numbers, WhatsApp calls are also being made to users. The purpose of such calls is to steal the personal and sensitive information of the users and the caller confuses the victim and steals the details related to their bank.
Apart from this, many users have also received calls from numbers starting from +01. It has been told by the cyber friend that you should be cautious of such calls and never share your banking details with anyone on the call. However, in this regard, banks are always aware by sending messages to their customers.
Lucky draw or lottery greed
During the call, information ranging from people's bank account numbers to debit/credit card details are stolen. For this, they are lured like winning the lottery or appearing in a lucky draw, and in return, the backing details demand that the money won will be sent to your account. The fraudster assures the victim of the trust of his service to be real by taking the name of a big company.
Do not share bank details with anyone
Many times, they are also asked to scan QR codes or bar codes on behalf of the caller. Do not scan such codes by mistake also. One can do more than one call with different numbers. Be cautious of such calls and never share your bank details with anyone on call.
