Pune: The work at the jumbo hospital sites – one at College of Engineering Pune ground and other at the Annasaheb Magar stadium in Pimpri-Chinchwad – has gathered speed as the district and civic administration is racing to complete this work by August 19. The flooring work at ICU beds section of the jumbo hospitals is going on while the work on air conditioned facility of oxygenated beds has been started on Wednesday (August 12).

The construction work of these two jumbo hospital facilities began on Monday (August 3). Each jumbo hospital facility will incur a cost of Rs 70 to 80 crore for its construction and further operations for six months. The district and civic administration has set a deadline of August 19 as discussed with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in a review meeting held in Pune recently.

The COEP jumbo hospital facility is spread over 7350 square metre area and will have 600 beds including oxygenated and ICU beds, while the Magar facility will have 200 oxygenated beds and 60 Intensive Care Units (ICU) beds.

Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) Commissioner Suhas Divase has been given the responsibility of completing these projects in time.

Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole shared some of the photographs on his Twitter handle.

Divase along with PMC City Planner Vivek Kharvadkar visited the facilities and took review of work progress. The COEP facility work has been assigned to Deepali Designs and Exhibits. PMRDA has instructed the agency to complete the work and keep hospital beds ready by August 18. The agencies appointed have erected the fundamental structure and will also provide a non-medical workforce too. The jumbo hospitals will be state-of-the-art structures with all facilities including oxygen tanks filling system, accommodation, catering etc.

The non-medical and medical staff required for the jumbo facilities will be around 280 to 300. The tender process for recruiting this manpower has already began. District administration officials said that they expect Rs 34 crore expenditure for the civil work of one jumbo hospital and another 35 to 44 crore expense for medical equipment and consumables at the hospital for the next six months.
