'Rajini sir believes that nobody who has invested money in a film should lose'

Veteran distributor-exhibitor Tirupur Subramaniam recalls that he first met Rajinikanth a few days before the release of 'Thalapathi'. He was heading the Tamil Nadu Distributors Federation then. Rajini's 'Nattukku Oru Nallavan' had released in October 1991, and he felt there should be at least four to six weeks’ time before the next release. But 'Thalapathi' was scheduled for Deepavali. Subramaniam expressed his concerns and Rajini asked to meet him at his home the next day. The Superstar appreciated Subramaniam for standing up for the right cause and said to him, ‘We are good friends from today’. According to him, Rajini watched 'Baashha' on December 31, and the next day, when he made his regular New Year call to him, the star expressed happiness over the extraordinary outcome of the movie. He also recalls Rajini's gesture of recommending his name as distributor for some of his films when he was going through a bad phase. Superstar requested the producers of 'Muthu' and 'Sivaji' to grand him the distribution rights for the Coimbatore area. Subramaniam avers that he gave Rajini honest feedback for his films after preview shows, and this is also why the latter trusted him a lot.
