Jamshedpur: With Covid-19 cases growing exponentially, the East Singhbhum district administration came up with fresh directives to prevent the virus from spreading.
According to the new guidelines for vehicular traffic, seven-seater vehicles will have four persons on board, including the driver, while five-seater cars can have up to three persons, including the driver, so that social distancing is comfortably maintained.
Deputy commissioner Suraj Kumar also directed officials of the traffic and transport department to resume vehicle checking from Wednesday to make sure people are following the norms of social distancing and wearing masks even inside cars. Kumar informed, “Anyone caught driving a two-wheeler without wearing helmets will be fined Rs 1,000 under Section 194, 194D of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019. Any person found not wearing face covers or not maintaining social distancing will be fined Rs 500 for each of the offences.”
For passenger vehicles, drivers have to keep a record of the name, address and contact number of passengers so that in the event of contact tracing, there is no hassle in reaching out to someone. The drivers of auto-rickshaws, e-rickshaws will have to collect route passes from authorities and will not be allowed to ply outside the allotted routes.
Till Tuesday, the district recorded 3,182 cases of Covid-19, of which 1,994 are active and 73 died of the virus.
