Karnataka HC directs VTU to consider the feasibility of online examination as an option
The court noted that there is still a lot of time as the examination is scheduled to begin on September 15 and VTU can seek opinion/ assistance from experts regarding technical requirements for conducting online examination.

BENGALURU: The Karnataka high court on Thursday directed Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) to consider whether it is feasible to provide an online examination as an option to the final year engineering students, in addition to proposed offline examination.
The court noted that there is still a lot of time as the examination is scheduled to begin on September 15 and VTU can seek opinion/ assistance from experts regarding technical requirements for conducting online examination.
The court also observed that the issue on hand is final year examination, which will have a great impact on a student"s future, the VTU needs to consider their grievances with all seriousness.
The hearing has been adjourned to September 25 and the court has directed the VTU to place its decision.
Earlier, the state government informed the court that standard operating procedures (SOP) which was followed during the conduct of the Karnataka Common Entrance Test on July 30 and July 31 would be made applicable for these exams.
Recording the statement, the court directed both the state government and VTU to put out the contact details of the designated officers who can be approached for redressal of their grievances by the students.
The petition is filed by final year students of Bangalore Institute of Technology.
Citing Covid pandemic, the students had approached the court challenging the University Grants Commission ( UGC) directive to complete the examination process by end of September. Interestingly, the Supreme court is also hearing a batch of petitions on the same issue.
