Representative imageKALYAN: Two cops from Bhiwandi turned saviours for a gang rape victim by donating blood she needed urgently to save her life. Constables Pramod Ishi (35) and Rahul Wagh 31) of Narpoli police station were felicitated by their seniors for their altruistic deed.
Five men sexually assaulted the 42-year-old woman at knifepoint while she was on her way home on August 2. She was injured after being stabbed repeatedly with a sharp weapon. Four of the men have been arrested.
The woman urgently needed blood of AB-positive group which was not available at the hospital and donors were unavailable in the time of Covid. Doctors sought help from the police, said senior police inspector Maloji Shinde.
Constable Ishi told TOI he and his colleague went to the hospital to donate blood on hearing about the urgent need.
