Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple Aavani Moola festival cancelled

MADURAI: The Aavani Moola festival at the Madurai Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple has been cancelled due to Covid-19.
Executive officer of the temple K Chelladurai said the Aavani Moola festival was scheduled to begin on August 15 and go on till September 1.
“The rituals require the deities to be taken out of the temple in processions to various places around the city, where celestial dramas are said to have been held. “As the temple is closed to the public and the deities cannot be brought out in processions, the festival has been cancelled,” he said.
However, special pujas and rituals would be performed in the temple twice a day, he added.
