An 18-year-old has died after a shooting in Greater Manchester, detectives have confirmed.

Officers were called to reports of several shots fired in Bury at about 21:35 BST on Wednesday, Greater Manchester Police said.

A spokesman said Cole Kershaw was found on Chesham Road with a single gunshot to the chest.

He was taken to hospital where he died a short time later. A murder investigation is under way.

Ch Supt Stuart Ellison said Mr Kershaw was in one of two cars caught up in an "altercation" between two groups of men "driving in tandem".

He said: "It's not clear at this stage, but it's unlikely Cole Kershaw was the intended target.

"It is quite clear it was a targeted attack on the vehicle and there doesn't seem to be a threat to the wider community."
