Abid Ali, Pakistan's best batsman on the day, reached his third Test half-century soon after play resumed post a long rain delay on the opening day of second Test in Southampton. However, he couldn't convert his fifty into a three-figure score as a Sam Curran delivery drew an outside edge which went straight to Rory Burns, who made amends for dropping him earlier in the day, and grabbed a good low catch at second slip. Before the rain delay, James Anderson got rid of Pakistan skipper Azhar Ali, who also handed a simple catch to second slip, after toiling hard for his 20 runs. Earlier, Pakistan got off to a poor start as they lost opener Shan Masood cheaply after Azhar Ali won the toss and decided to bat. England fast bowlers bowled probing line and lengths causing the visitors a lot of trouble. However, Abid Ali and Azhar Ali somehow managed to keep England bowlers at bay, helping Pakistan reach 65/1 at lunch. Abid Ali also got some help from England slip fielders who dropped him twice, while Azhar Ali was lucky that the ball didn't clip his bails even after hitting the stumps. (LIVE SCORECARD)
