Vinayaka Chaturthi: Tamil Nadu govt won’t allow installation of idols in public places, their immersions in water bodies

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government on Monday announced that it will not allow installation of Vinayaka idols in public places, celebrations in public, processions and immersion of idols in water bodies.
The move has been taken to contain the spread Covid-19 and considering the welfare of people. “People are advised to celebrate Vinayaka Chaturthi at home,” said an official statement.
It also advised people who step out to buy essentials to celebrate the festival to wear masks mandatorily and adhere to social distancing norms everywhere.
Since the state government issued standard operating procedure for public worship at small temples across the state, the public and temple management have been asked to follow the Covid-19 protocols.
Vinayaka Chaturthi is celebrated in the state on August 22.
