THANE: The city witnessed an average of 68mm rainfall since Wednesday morning with Vartak Nagar and Mumbra receiving the highest rainfall at nearly 83mm each.
The city witnessed several rain related mishaps including tree falls, short circuits, among others throughout the day. Despite heavy rains, no waterlogging was reported to the disaster management cell.
The roof of a house in Vartak Nagar was damaged after a tree fell on it early in the day while three other separate incidents of tree falls were also reported across the city on Wednesday. Dhokali residents complained of sparks emerging off an electricity pole in the morning which attended to by the officials. Luckily, no one was reported injured in any of the mishaps.
The scaffolding erected around a building undergoing repairs also collapsed in the city but there was no injury reported, informed civic officials.
Meanwhile, nearly 20 passengers aboard a TMT bus had a miraculous escape after the vehicle skid off the wet road at Ghodbunder and jumped off the divider, early Wednesday. An official said the Borivli-bound bus was probably speeding while descending the slope ahead of the toll naka.
“The driver has said the bus skid over the wet surface due to which he momentarily lost control. Luckily, he managed to swerve the bus on the divider else it could have rammed into few vehicles lined up at the toll naka ahead. Surprisingly, none of the passengers suffered any injuries. We will nonetheless probe the mishap and take action if necessary,” informed a senior TMT official.
