HYDERABAD: Telangana minister for industries KT Rama Rao laid the foundation stone for Medha Servo Rail Coach Factory in Ranga Reddy district on Thursday.
Spread across 100 acres, the rail coach factory is being constructed in Kodangal village of Shankarpally mandal with a budget of Rs 800 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that this project will create employment opportunities for hundreds of people across Telangana.
“Medha will soon be the country’s largest rail coach factory in the private sector. With an investment of Rs 30,000 crore, the central government is also inviting private sectors as part of public-private partnership projects. It has brought privatisation in railways as well. We wish to utilise rail coaches and other locomotives from Medha in the all the rail project of Telangana in future,” said KT Rama Rao.
Speaking about the importance of the rail coach factory and its contribution to High Speed Rail Network in the country, KTR said, “The high speed rail network will increase job prospects by enabling people residing in other districts of the state to commute to Hyderabad on a daily basis without having to shift to another place or waste much time in travel.”
Medha Servo Drives, the Hyderabad-based manufacturer of rail coaches and propulsion systems for diesel electric locomotives, has announced plans to set up a new manufacturing unit in Telangana for rail and metro coaches in 2017.
Founded in 1984, the company diversified into Railways in 1990 and it supplies rail coaches and propulsion systems to railways and makes exports.
