COMEDK Exam 2020: Karnataka High Court declines to interfere in conduct of exam scheduled on August 19

Karnataka High Court on Thursday, August 13, declined to interfere in conduct of COMEDK exam. The HC was hearing a plea challenging the conduct of ComedK exam in the state, which is scheduled to be conducted on August 19, 2020.

The HC order states, "At the outset we find that there is already a delay in conducting exams owing to COVID-19. With passage of time, Karnataka govt went on to conduct 10th std exam and KCET 2020. ComedK examination is being conducted all over India, in 342 centres and 30 states. It is for 20,000 seats which is in 190 colleges plus 7 state Universities."

ComedK exam to be conducted on August 19, 2020. The HC directs ComedK to take all precautions to be followed for safe conduct of the exam. "If necessary, additional precautions may also be taken apart from what has been placed on record," reads HC order.

The Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka’s (COMEDK) had earlier postponed the Undergraduate Entrance Test (UGET) exam and rescheduled to August 19.

A plea has been filed in the Karnataka High Court seeking postponement of the ComedK exam due to Covid-19 pandemic. The petition, filed by Advocate Abdulla Mannan Khan, states that there isn't an immediate urgency to conduct the ComedK exam as it will not have any effect on the students' academic future. Other national level entrance exams like - JEE, NEET, AIBE, CLAT - have been already postponed. With this, demand for postponement of ComdeK exam also intensified across the state. Many students took to Twitter to demand postponement of the entrance exam.


ComdeK Undergraduate Entrance Test (UGET) is a state-level entrance exam conducted by the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka for admission to various courses.


With the inter-district travel ban in many states, students and parents argued that travelling to the centres will be a problem if the exam date is not postponed further.
