PATNA: The ongoing political feud between Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) and Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) took a new low on Wednesday after senior JD(U) leader and Munger MP Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh compared the LJP chief Chirag Paswan with “scatterbrained Kalidas.”
“What he (Chirag) says he knows better. But there was a Kalidas. It is popular about him that once he (kalidas) began cutting the same branch of a tree on which he was sitting,” Lalan Singh told media persons here while reacting over the LJP’s latest tweet in which Chirag’s party reminded Nitish-led Bihar government for increasing the number of testing for covid-19.
“The LJP has been demanding since the last few days that there is a need of increasing the number of covid-19 testing in Bihar. Now, after the Prime Minister intervened and gave suggestions, there is not only a hope but also confidence that the Bihar government will increase the testing so that Bihar can be protected from covid-19,” a tweet on the LJP’s official handle reads. The tweet, written in Hindi, was later re-tweeted by Chirag from his official handle, causing a great resentment in the ruling JD(U) camp.
The comparison of Chirag with Kalidas, a very famous Sanskrit poet said to be an absent-minded man before he received blessings from deities, was being interpreted as a clear reminder from the JD(U) to the LJP that it was opposing to the same party on whose vote-bank it won the last parliamentary elections in Bihar.
Political analysts believe that Lalan, who is considered very close to the Bihar CM, would not have compared Chirag with Kalidas, without getting a green signal from his bosses in the JD(U).
“As far as the Covid-19 is concerned, the CM Nitish Kumar is very sensitive. As on date, around 83,000 testing is being done every day and there is a target of taking the number of testing to one lakh in next three days. Out of a total 83,000 samples tested on Tuesday, only 3,771 peoples were found positive, less than 5% of the total testing. Moreover, Bihar’s recovery rate is around 66%,” the JD(U)’s Lok Sabha member from Munger, said on Wednesday.
Lalan further said though PM Modi had on Tuesday suggested a general way for increasing testing for covid-19. “But it is another matter that the LJP has its eyes fixed somewhere and the target is some other one,” the JD(U) MP said making a sarcastic remark on Paswan's party.
