Three police officers were taken to hospital after their van was in collision with a car in Liverpool.

The crash involving the police vehicle and a Range Rover happened at the junction of Great Homer Street and Wilbraham Street at about 10:10 BST.

Two of the officers have since been discharged after being taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

Merseyside Police said the third officer, as well as a prisoner who was in the van, suffered minor injuries.

The four occupants of the Ranger Rover - three women and a child - were not injured, police confirmed.

Appealing for information about the crash, a force spokesman said the area had been cordoned off.

Drivers were being asked to avoid the area.
