Surat: Congress municipal councillor booked for accepting bribe

SURAT: Congress municipal councillor has been booked by the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Wednesday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 through his aid.
Satish Patel, a councillor of Bhestan area of Surat Municipal Corporation is currently on run while his aid was caught from the spot.
ACB caught Abhiraj alias Abhi Ejwa, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from the complainant on behalf of Patel. ACB officials are in search of Patel who was not found at his home when police searched.
The complainant's friend is developing a building in Pandesara and claiming it to be illegal, Patel had threatened to get it demolished by SMC. For not complaining in SMC Patel and Ejwa had demanded Rs 20,000. After a request by the developer of the building to reduce the amount the accused agreed to accept Rs 15,000.
Meanwhile, the complainant approached ACB and lodged a complaint. Laying a trap K J Chaudhary, police inspector, ACB under supervision of NP Gohil, assistant director, ACB, nabbed Ejwa.
ACB initiated a search at the residence of Patel to investigate his wealth. "Patel is yet to get arrested. A search is on for him and he will be nabbed soon," said an ACB officer.
In past, municipal councillors from BJP and Congress in SMC were caught accepting bribe by blackmailing citizens.
