The West Bengal government on Wednesday released a new list for the lockout in the state. The state government had earlier announced a complete lockout in the state for two days every week till the end of August. To prevent the spread of coronaviruses in the eastern state, the Mamata Banerjee-led government implemented a partial lockdown from July.


The state government said in a statement on Wednesday, "Many requests and appeals have been received to completely close the lockdown on some festivals and local community-based customs."

There will be complete lockdown on these days in Bengal.

West Bengal COVID-19 Lockdown Guidelines:

The state government issued a detailed guideline for partial lockout in Bengal. Essential services will be allowed to function. Medical outlets will remain open during the lockout. All other shops across the state will be closed two days a week.

All government and private offices, commercial establishments will also remain closed. The central government had earlier announced that educational institutions including schools, colleges and universities would remain closed by the end of the month.

All public and private transport will remain closed. However, petrol pumps are allowed to operate within days of complete lockdown.

The West Bengal government had earlier extended a ban on domestic flights to Kolkata from high-spread locations. No flights will be allowed at Kolkata Airport till August 31 from six cities of the country. These cities are Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Chennai and Ahmedabad.

Domestic flight services from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata will also be closed on days when the lockdown is being implemented in West Bengal. Passengers were requested to contact the airlines concerned to change their flight schedule.

The number of coronaviruses in the state is more than 1 lakh. According to the state health bulletin, at least 2,931 people came coronavirus positive on Tuesday. The death toll from COVID-19 disease rose to 2,149. The total number of active coronavirus patients increased to 25,846. More than 73,000 coronavirus patients have recovered.
