BENGALURU: After repeated pleas and Twitter campaigns by students to postpone competitive exams like ComedK and IIT-JEE went unnoticed, students took an innovative route to gain visibility on Wednesday - they began tweeting their requests along with the trending hashtag, #InternationalYouthDay.

While ComedK is scheduled for August 19, JEE (Main) exam will be held between September 1 and 6 and JEE (Advanced) on September 27. National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is slated to be conducted on September 13. Two days ago, a petition was filed before the Supreme Court seeking a direction for postponement of both NEET and JEE.

After failing to catch the authorities' attention several through emails and letters, students took to the social media platform and used the #InternationalYouthDay hashtag to reiterate their request.

Krithika (name changed), a city student who's in West Bengal, said: "May be the authorities will realise the irony behind how youngsters in our country are ignored even as the world celebrates International Youth Day." She added several of her friends are stuck in remote areas and may not be able to appear for the exams.

A student from West Bengal said lockdown dates in the state have been changing and transportation is also a problem. "My ComedK exam centre is Kolkata, which is 100km from my hometown. It's not just West Bengal, several other states have also banned public transport. Many students are facing the same problem. We are not scared of Covid, we are worried about reaching the centre," said the student who didn't want to be named.

Most of these students said national-level entrance exams carry a bigger risk than KCET or SSLC. Harsh, another student, shared screenshots of his mails to the authorities, which have gone unanswered. "Please don't leave us in a state of misery. KCET was a matter of only one state, ComedK is not," he said in an email.

However, some students want the exams to be held as per schedule.

Priya (name changed) said on Twitter that if invigilators test negative for Covid-19, they can invigilate in PPE kits. Transport can be allowed for two days for admit card holders. "... Many ways are possible if you really don't want to be at a loss in terms of your career. Please do not postpone NEET and JEE," she wrote.
