Two Indiana teenagers have been accused of plotting a Columbine-inspired mass shooting after investigators found messages saying they were planning to 'kill a bunch of people' before planning to kill themselves at two high schools in the state.

John Schultz, 18, and Donald Robin, Jr, 17, from Rochester, have been charged with conspiracy of murder and intimidation after allegedly planning to shoot up Rochester High School and Caston High School in Fulton County.

Authorities had opened an investigation into the two boys last month after receiving an anonymous tip claiming the pair were armed with guns and were planning to 'kill a bunch of kids' when the school year began, WSBT reported.

After executing a search warrant of their homes and social media, investigators found the teens had been trying to copy the 1999 Columbine massacre in Colorado, and had gotten tattoos of guns with quotes from shooters Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold.

Robin and Schultz had also bought black trench coats similar to those of the killers and had listened to music about the deadly shooting, according to the news station.

Investigators also found a number of alarming messages detailing their plans, including one from Robin in June saying: 'I'm killing myself after I kill a bunch of people... and we're peacin' out when we kill a bunch of human scum.'

In a separate message to an unnamed recipient, Schultz allegedly spoke about targeting schools with Robin saying: 'We are gonna do it i wanna shoot up a school with him,' ABC57 reported.

'I want him to stay out of trouble till we can shoot up the place,' he added.

Court documents showed the two had expressed admiration for Harris and Klebold, sending each other photos of them and even giving themselves the same nicknames as the killers.

In 1999, Harris (left) and Klebold (right) opened fire at Columbine High School in Colorado, killing 12 students and a teacher before killing themselves

The messages also made references to depression, suicidal thoughts, and guns.

In one conversation documented in a probable cause affidavit, Robin told an unnamed person that he was 'almost a school shooter' in eighth grade when he was feeling suicidal and homicidal.

He recalled taking his father's AR-15 and planning to shoot up Rochester Middle School before talking himself out of it, ABC57 reported.

In another conversation, he said he wanted 'everyone dead' at Caston High, as well a Rochester High School, before explaining his plans for his rampage, which included killing the security guards and trying to get through as many classrooms as possible, according to court documents.

The Columbine massacre on April 20, 1999, was once considered the deadliest shooting the country's history.

Klebold and Harris shot and killed 12 students and one teacher before turning the gun on themselves. At least two dozen people were injured in the attack.

'Anytime anyone's obsessed with Columbine, yes, it's a fine line between free speech and when you cross the line, but I think in this case, clearly what they had done was going to interfere with the occupancy of a school,' Fulton County Prosecutor Michael Marrs said.

Schultz is currently being held in Fulton County Jail, where Robin, a juvenile who turns 18 later this month, will be transferred later.
