PATIALA: The state unit of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has decided to hold a dharna in Amritsar against the controversy over the 267 saroops of Shri Guru Granth Sahib that are untraceable.
Interacting with media persons in Patiala on Tuesday Aam Aadmi party's senior leader and leader of opposition (LoP) Harpal Cheema said the dharna being staged by Shiromani Akali Dal in Patiala against failure of the administration in initiating action into the missing rare miniature saroop of Shri Guru Granth Sahib that had gone missing from Ardaspur Sahib Gurudwara in Kalyan village of the district was just a sham.
He said when the Shiromani Akali Dal's role in Bargari and Behbal Kalan sacrilege incidents was questionable, how could its president Sukhbir Singh Badal hold a protest in Patiala on a similar issue.
He said Sukhbir Singh Badal had lost ground amongst the sangat and was now indulging in political gimmickry so that he can save his face.
He also slammed Capt Amarinder Singh government over the issue stating that the government was mysteriously sluggish in tracing the rare miniature saroop of Shri Guru Granth Sahib missing from Ardaspur Sahib Gurudwara. He said the issue was worrisome.
Comparing the incident with theft of sacred saroop of Guru Granth Sahib from Burj Jawahar Singh in 2015, he said, at that time Badal government had shown little interest in tracing the holy scripture, which had led to a series of protests and the subsequent police firing.
The AAP leader sought a clarification from Sukhbir Singh Badal and SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal on the issue of 267 sacred saroops of Guru Granth Sahib which are untraceable.
He said Sukhbir Badal was trying to mislead the people of the state with his 'pseudo love' for people and the panth. He along with AAP MLA Kultar Singh demanded that the investigations into these incidents should be handed over to a special investigating team headed by Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh under the supervision of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Cheema said during their protest at Amritsar the party will highlight the dubious role of politicians in such matters and how Capt Amarinder government was protecting the Badals in the sacrilege incidents.
