New Delhi: Shiv Sena corporator Amey Ghole recently shared an image of a boat with the claim that it was the Maharashtra government’s ambulance service from Mandava Jetty to the Gateway of India.

Ghole’s tweet, shared Sunday, was subsequently retweeted by Shiv Sena Deputy Leader Priyanka Chaturvedi Monday. Chaturvedi said it was a “good intervention and initiative”.

While Ghole’s image has been shared over 350 times and liked by more than 2,500 people, Chaturvedi’s tweet was liked by more than 2,000 users and retweeted 200 times.

Aside from Ghole and Chaturvedi, many others have also shared the image. It was also shared multiple times on Facebook and WhatsApp.

Fact check

Even though the services of a boat ambulance has been announced by the Maharashtra government from Gateway of India (Mumbai) to Mandwa Jetty (Raigad), ThePrint found that the image used in the social media posts was not from India.

It is a boat ambulance in Guernsey, one of the English Channel islands near the French coast. The image of the boat being shared is called Flying Christine III and it was previously shown in a BBC article from 2014.
