Surat: One killed, three hurt in oxygen cylinder blast in Udhana industrial area

SURAT: One person was killed and three others were seriously injured after an oxygen cylinder exploded in an oxygen refilling unit in the city’s Udhana industrial area on Tuesday.
Sources in the fire and emergency department of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) stated that the explosion in the oxygen cylinder took place at 12.49 pm at the Ashok Jyoti oxygen private limited situated at Paris Plaza in Udhana Ughyognagar.
About six fire tenders were rushed to the spot for the rescue operation. The fire fighters rescued about 13 person from the unit. About three persons had received serious injuries, while one person identified as Manoj Yadav, 35, died on the spot.
Sources said that the unit owned by one Ajay Sahu is into the refilling of the oxygen cylinder used in the industrial and hospital purpose. The blast in the oxygen cylinder occurred due to the heavy pressure during the refilling process.
A fire officer said, “One person was killed on the spot and three others received serious injuries. We had rescued about 13 persons who were trapped in the debris. The explosion was serious and that it had damaged the concrete structure of the unit. The three injured persons were rushed to the private hospital for treatment.”
