Ranchi: Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University (DSPMU) on Monday extended its last date for admission till August 20. The ongoing admission process was supposed to be over by August 10.
DSPMU vice-chancellor Dr S N Munda said, "As only a few candidates enrolled in our new courses like yogic science, music and fine arts, we have decided to extend the last date of admission for all subjects."
He added that among the new subjects introduced in the university this year, there is a huge rush of applicants for the commerce stream with 600 applications already received against the department’s capacity of 200 seats.
Similarly, Ranchi University (RU) has also given the discretion to its affiliated colleges located in suburban and rural areas to continue the admission process in the undergraduate courses till August 31.
RU public relation officer R K Jha said, "Initially, the last date for admission in all the affiliated and constituent colleges was fixed at August 19. However, the colleges located in the rural areas have been given the liberty to continue the process till August 31 in case the number of applicants is less. We may request the National Informatics Centre, which is operating the Chancellor’s portal where the admissions are going on, for further extension to fill up the seats."
Meanwhile, the Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ) is gearing up to take admission tests for its post-graduate courses in September. CUJ vice-chancellor Nand Kumar Yadav said, "After discussing with the VCs of other central universities, we have decided to take offline admission tests for our post-graduate courses in September once the IIT-JEE exam is over."
CUJ had to postpone the admission test several times in the recent past owing to the viral outbreak. Even the university’s last date for admission, which started in March, was extended several times and it continued till June.
