NEW DELHI: Three Delhi Police personnel, one of them from the Special Cell, and five of their aides have been arrested for allegedly trying to carry out a gunpoint robbery at the office of a financial trading service in south Delhi’s Mahipalpur. The gang has reportedly committed similar crimes in the past, it has been alleged.
The incident took place on Saturday night when a group of eight ‘policemen’ raided the premises of the office and accused the owner of indulging in illegal activities. Though negotiation ensued, a scuffle soon broke out when the two parties failed to reach an agreement. This apparently led to the ‘cops’ whipping out weapons and trying to hold the office bearers hostage.
Illegal weapons seized from gang of robbersThe office staffers managed to overpower the eight, disarm them and call up the PCR. DCP (south-west) Devender Arya’s team rushed to the office and nabbed the 'cops'. During interrogation, it turned out that at least three of them were real policemen. The cops also recovered illegal weapons from their colleagues.
The arrested policemen have been identified as Sandeep, Amit and Mannu, all constables. It was found the three cops would use their official ID cards to gain access into an office they planned to rob and first try to compromise a deal with the owner, failing which they would call in their other associates to threaten the owner to cough out money. The role of the three is being probed.
