BOSTON --- Rafael Devers (left ankle) was out of the Red Sox lineup for the second straight night Tuesday.

Boston’s third baseman suffered what manager Ron Roenicke called a minor injury during Sunday’s 5-3 victory over the Blue Jays. Devers was running out a batted ball in the bottom of the ninth inning when he slowed noticeably going down the line to first.

Devers was spotted outside his Fenway Park suite wearing a soft cast around his left ankle Monday afternoon. He was unavailable off the bench during that night’s 8-7 loss to the Rays.

"Did some hitting in the cage," Roenicke said. "Took some ground balls today. Ran a little bit. He’s doing way better. We weren’t quite sure where he was going to be at after last night, but a lot better today."

Devers crushed a solo homer to center against Toronto, his second of the season in what has been a slow start. The 23-year-old is slashing just .175/.242/.351 through 16 games and has totaled just three RBI. Devers was sensational in his second full season last year, piling up 390 total bases, 32 home runs and 54 doubles in 156 games.
