Authorities are investigating the death of a three-month-old girl who was found unresponsive at a home in New South Wales.

Emergency services were called to a unit in Hamilton South, in Newcastle, last Tuesday.

The baby died after being rushed to John Hunter Hospital.

Police are now investigating the infant's death after a crime scene was established and a forensic team inspected the apartment.

An autopsy has been conducted and police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the child's death.

No charges have been laid yet.
