Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday said the BJP’s attempts to topple the Congress government had failed because all the Cingress MLAs remained together and not a single legislator had left. “None of our MLAs fell for horse-trading. They have made history,” he asserted.

A day after the All India Congress Committee announced the setting up of a committee to hear the grievances of ousted Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot, Mr. Gehlot told reporters here that peace and brotherhood would prevail in the party and the future roadmap would be decided according to the decisions taken on Monday.

Mr. Gehlot left for Jaisalmer to preside over a Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting at a resort where the MLAs supporting him have been sequestered. He said his government would complete its full term of five years and the Congress would win the 2023 Assembly election as well.

The Chief Minister said he had told all the MLAs that he would take care of them as a guardian. “They have full faith in the Congress high command and in me. We will come up to their expectations and also try to resolve all the grievances of those who had left,” he added.

Mr. Gehlot’s remarks come after rebel Congress leader Sachin Pilot’s meeting with Rahul Gandhi on the night of August 10 that signalled an “amicable resolution” of nearly a month-long political crisis in the State.

Mr. Pilot revolted against Mr. Gehlot a month ago and told reporters on August 10 that he and the other MLAs had raised organisational issues, the case of sedition filed by the SOG and the style of governance in the State, and expressed the hope that these will be addressed soon.
