Pimpri: March 11, the first case of COVID-19 was reported in Pune. Since then, the coronavirus situation in Pune along with the industrial hub Pimpri-Chinchwad reporting number of new COVID-19 cases. Though the recovery rate in Pune is increasing with mortality rate dropping at 2 per cent, the situation looks grim in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The region has entered into the Red Zone amid the rising cases.
Pimpri-Chinchwad which is known as the industrial hub has seen a huge surge in the spread of novel coronavirus. On Monday, 679 new cases were found in the limits of PCMC (Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation).
Along with Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad was under strict lockdown during July 13-July 23 where only essential services were allowed. The aim behind the strict shutdown was to increase the testing in the area as well as to curtail the spread of infection in the city. During the period of this 10 days, 8,599 patients were detected here.
In the wake of rising COVID-19 cases, jumbo facility centres are soon to be set up here. Though the Pimpri-Chinchwad police are taking strict action against those who are violating the lockdown rules, many areas of the city are observed with traffic jams and market areas are seen crowded with social distancing flouted.
Shravan Hardikar, Municipal Commissioner of PCMC said, “Pimpri-Chinchwad has reentered into the red zone. The state administration may issue a strict advisory amid the spread of contagion in the limits. People must follow all the rules which are made to curb the further spread.”
The administration has appealed people to follow all the norms of social distancing along with wearing face masks is mandatory. The administration has stated that even though the rules of lockdown are not being changed with immediate effect, the state government can decide as the region has now gone into the ‘Red Zone’.
