PATNA: Police personnel posted at Phulwarisharif police station in
Patna would now have to undergo Covid-19 test after one of the two drug smugglers they had arrested turned out to be infected with the virus on Monday.
The arrested Covid-positive drug smugglers was identified as Luvkush Kumar, aged around 20 years.
Phulwarisharif police station SHO Rafique-Ur-Rahman said they had to get him admitted in AIIMS-Patna for treatment instead of producing him before a judicial magistrate in order to send him to jail along with his associate Ajeet Kumar (23).
The SHO said two home guards took the duo for Covid-19 testing at the primary health centre in Phulwarisharif at around 2pm on Monday.
“As soon as Luvkush tested Covid-19 positive, guards left him inside the health centre,” he said.
SHO said even the smuggler was shocked to know about his Covid status.
“He didn’t move and stayed at centre. We were informed at police station after which I went to the centre,” he said.
“After coordinating with AIIMS-Patna administration, we took him there and got him admitted for treatment,” he said.
The SHO said that surprisingly, his partner in crime Ajeet, tested Covid-19 negative despite the fact that they both used to stay in the same room.
“Now, the entire police station staff would undergo Covid-19 test in a phased manner. Four, including the two home guards, who were escorting the duo, were directed to go and get themselves tested on Tuesday,” he said.
