NZ reports new COVID-19 case after 102 days
- New Zealand reported one new after 102 days, taking the total number of active cases in the country to 22.
- This brought New Zealand's total number of confirmed cases to 1,220.
Bhutan imposes nationwide lockdown to curb COVID-19 spread
- PM Lotay Tshering said the positive case was reported in Gelephu town and the female patient had come in close contact with many people in Paro, Thimphu and several other places.
- Lotay said the lockdown is expected to last between five days to a maximum of three weeks.
- Bhutan has a total of 113 positive cases.
Gargling with mouthwashes might lower spread of COVID-19: Scientists
- Coronavirus can be inactivated using commercially available mouthwashes.
- Gargling with these products may reduce the quantities of viral particles in the mouth and throat, and possibly reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
- However, the study published in the Journal of Infectious Diseases, cautions that mouthwashes are not suitable for treating COVID-19 infections or protecting oneself against catching the virus.

Expert committee on COVID-19 vaccine administration to meet tomorrow
- An expert committee under the chairmanship of NITI Aayog member Dr VK Paul will meet on Wednesday to consider the logistics and ethical aspects of procuring and administering the COVID- 19 vaccine.
- The committee would chalk out strategies on the aspects of prioritisation of the vaccine administration once it is developed, rollout and cold chain logistics and training of the people who would be administering it.
- The committee will engage with all the stakeholders including state governments and vaccine manufacturers.

More than 15 COVID-19 patients in Kharasavalasa village, Salur Mandal of Vizianagaram district have taken shelter under a tree shade claiming lack of facility being provided by the administration.
Karnataka issues revised guidelines for home isolation of COVID-19 patients
- COVID-19 patients under homeisolation will stand discharged after 10 days of symptom onset or date of sampling, and no fever for three days.
- Thereafter, the patient shall be advised to isolate at home and self-monitor their health for further 7 days.
- Only those who are asymptomatic or mild symptomatic shall be allowed to be in home care.
- Health team from district health authority or authorised private institution or agency shall visit the house and assess the suitability of house for home isolation and also do medical triage of the person.
- Dedicated tele-monitoring link shall be established for daily follow-up of the person during the entire period of home isolation or home care.
COVID-positive hockey player Mandeep shifted to hospital after drop in oxygen level
- Indian hockey team forward Mandeep Singh has been admitted to a hospital in Bengaluru after his blood oxygen level dropped but his condition is stable, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) said.
- Mandeep and five other national players -- captain Manpreet Singh, defenders Surender Kumar, Jaskaran Singh, drag-flicker Varun Kumar and goalkeeper Krishan Bahadur Pathak -- were tested positive for COVID-19 last week after reaching Bengaluru for the national camp, which starts on August 20.

- Brazil's number of Covid-19 cases has increased by more than 22,000 over the past 24 hours, with over 700 deaths.

Confirmed coronavirus cases reach 20 million
- The confirmed number of coronavirus cases in the world has reached 20 million. That's according to the tally kept by Johns Hopkins University.
- Health officials believe the actual number is much higher, given testing limitations and the fact that as many as 40% of all those who are infected have no symptoms.
- The US, India and Brazil have together accounted for nearly two-thirds of all cases since the world hit 15 million on July 22.

- Aviation regulator DGCA has suspended two senior executives of AirAsia India for a period of three months over "safety violations".
- The suspension was carried out a week ago.
- In June this year, one of the AirAsia India's former pilots -- who runs a YouTube channel called Flying Beast -- alleged violations of safety norms by the low-cost airline.
3 arrested in connection with Vijayawada COVID facility fire that claimed 10 lives
- Three officials of the Ramesh Hospital in Vijayawada were arrested on Monday for neglecting the need of electrical repairs which could have averted the fire accident that killed as many as 10 people on August 9, said the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister's Office (CMO).
- The three officials include the hospital's Chief Operating Officer (COO) Dr Kodali Raja Gopala Rao, Dr Kurapati Sudarshan, and Pallabothu Venkatesh.
- The three officials are directly responsible for ensuring that the safety of patients being treated at the facility is taken care of, as per the release.
2 Puducherry Cabinet Ministers test positive for COVID-19
- Puducherry Cabinet Ministers M Kandasamy and R Kamalakannan have tested positive for coronavirus, said Chief Minister V Narayanasami.
- Several Union Ministers including Home Minister Amit Shah, Minister of State Arjun Ram Meghwal, MoS for Agriculture Kailash Choudhary have tested positive for the virus.
- Former President Pranab Mukherjee and Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit are also among those who have been infected.
Yogi sends additional officers to coronavirus-prone districts
- UP CM Yogi Adityanath has sent two special secretary-level officials to assist the District Magistrates in controlling the spread of the coronavirus in Kanpur and Lucknow, the cities that have constantly registered a high number of COVID-19 cases daily.
- One special secretary-level official will also be appointed in Varanasi, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Bareilly and Bahraich.

- Former President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday underwent brain surgery to remove a clot at the Army Research & Referral Hospital and is on ventilator support after the procedure.
- Prior to his surgery, Mukherjee, 84, had also tested positive for coronavirus.
