Baghpat police at the crime scene
BAGHPAT: UP's Baghpat yet again reverberated with gunshots and this time the target was former district president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Sanjay Khokhar.
According to police sources, Khokhar went out for a morning walk in Chaprauli area on Tuesday when assailants surrounded him in an agricultural field and shot at him from close range.
One bullet hit his head while another one chest. Khokhar died on the spot.
He was district president of Baghpat from 2015 to 2019 and was currently the member of the district planning committee.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath has expressed shock and grief over Sanjay's killing on his official Twitter account and has directed the state police to "crack the case within 24 hours, bring culprits to books and also establish the accountability in this case".
Prima facie police feel personal enmity the reason behind the murder.
"We have constituted five teams to arrest killers. Prima facie, it appears to be the result of personal enmity. We are in touch with the family and close associates of the deceased. We are in the process of investigating the role of potential rivals and if they have hired anyone to kill the leader. We will catch culprits within 24 hours," said Praveen Kumar, IG Meerut range who rushed to the spot to assess the situation.
Notably, this is the third high profile murder in the district in a month. Earlier Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Deshwal Khokhar was shot dead and before that Paramvir Tugana, a dreaded criminal of the region on bail was killed while he was campaigning for his relative for the forthcoming village panchayat elections.
